Steve Barber is a seasoned accounting and finance professional with over 30 years in corporate accounting and finance. Steve has experience in a wide range of industries including financial management, healthcare, internet commerce, publishing, and events management. He spent 17 years managing the accounting and finance departments at an executive level for a $100 million B2B media company located in Rockville, Maryland. While there, Steve was involved in over 50 acquisitions and helped pivot the company through a recession and changing revenue streams.
In 2018, Steve launched Supporting Strategies, an outsourced accounting services business that helps businesses with their bookkeeping and understanding of their company finances. In just 4 years, he built the business into one of the top offices for his franchisor and recently won the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year.
Steve is passionate about helping non-profits and has served on different boards. He started a community group called the Non-Profit Alliance, which provides guidance to growing non-profits in several industry verticals. Also, Supporting Strategies helps to support several companies in the art space by providing discounted accounting-service fees.
Steve is currently on the Executive Committee for the Gaithersburg- Germantown Chamber of Commerce where he runs the Membership Committee and is a Board Member of the Metropolitan Ballet Theatre. Steve was also a member of the strategic planning committee for the Chamber in 2022. His commitment to the organizations he serves is unparalleled as he volunteers his time with those organizations and takes a personal, hands-on approach in helping with understanding the finances.
In his free time, Steve enjoys outdoor activities and supporting the arts and his community. He can often be found at Blackrock or the Weinberg in Frederick. He is also still involved in his son’s former high school as the master griller for all home football games!
