Member Bio
HI,
My name is Cameron Edwards.
I took accounting in high school and it just "clicked" like nothing else ever has. I had heard all the stories about going to school for something and then coming out and actually working in it, and then hating it. I didn't want that to happen. After graduating high school, I called 3 different tax firms in my area and said "I don't have experience, but I am wiling to do whatever it takes to learn". The first two said no. Thankfully, I pushed onwards, and the 3rd company I called said yes, we need someone to answer the phones for us at night during tax season. Success! I worked for that company for 4 years while working at Costco (Costco for money and the other job for experience), while attending University of Baltimore for my undergrad.
Once I graduated UB, I had many jobs in many different fields in the different subsets in accounting. My first job out of college was working as junior accountant for the Baltimore convention center. My next job was doing sales tax audits for the state of Maryland. My next job was working under a large auditing firm auditing the government. My next job was with a government contractor auditing people who received money from the government. My next job was working for the federal government doing internal auditors. Almost all of those jobs, I only lasted a few years because my entrepreneur mind set tends to butt heads with bosses who are not up for always trying to find the most efficient and accurate to do things. While working at these various jobs, I also worked at a different tax office preparing tax returns during tax season. Although I wasn't at these jobs for long, I took away a lot from each job, and bring that experience with me everyday.
On the education side, ever since I knew I was going to stay in the accounting field, I knew CPA had to my end goal. I don't consider myself a good test taker, but I did eventually pass all 4 sections of the CPA. Most people may not know this, but to get the CPA, you need 150 education credits, which in most cases, means a Master's degree. Most people go for a MBA. I don't want to be "most people". I had taken a forensic accounting class as part of my undergrad degree and I really enjoyed the thought of tracking down people who thought they could get ahead of everyone else by cheating and fraudulent means. I graduated Stevenson University in 2017 with my Master's in Forensic accounting.
After being laid off from one my full time jobs for finishing my work ahead of schedule (leaving no work to be done), I decided to start my own tax business. It grew slowly over the years. Eventually, I was in place where I could take the leap and my own business my full time job. Fast forward a few years from that, the my business has grown to a point that I felt that I was no longer able to provide my clients the time and service they deserve. At this point I decided I needed help. I combined businesses with my long term friend who is fantastic at building process flows and management and a colleague who is an enrolled agent with the IRS and a Certified Tax Coach to form EH Solutions.
Ever since we combined in June 2023, we have seen 30% growth each year, and have more than doubled our staff headcount. We are currently working on expanding our service offerings to be able to help businesses at any stage of their evolution, from formation to sale.
On a personal note, I grew up in Carroll County, Maryland (bonus points if you actually know where that is!). I moved to Aspen Hill (Silver Spring) in 2016 and later bought a house with my wife in Gaithersburg in 2020. We love all that Gaithersburg has to offer in terms of culture and food. When we aren't exploring the local area, we enjoy traveling the world. Our daughter, who is now 2, has been to 3 different countries already! As of the time of this writing, she also has a little brother on the way!
